Weekly summary for CSC 104 (6)

This week's blog is the last one for CSC104's purpose!
Let me talk about the lecture for this week. The main topic about lecture is property. The most interested part in this week was about the trademark, patent, and copyright. When professor mentioned this part, I connected them with my knowledge that learned for my accounting course. So much information in this week will be very helpful for my life. For example, when professor talked about the part of "download much", I thought that I downloaded too much free music, and it was harmful for private property.
The one of my achievements this week was to finish the course of CSC 104. This was my first time to take some related courses to computer science, and it was a good memory for me because I learned much useful information and I met many new friends!

Issue of privacy in networked computers:
When people use a networked computer, they are sharing resources with other users, some of them in only distantly-connected portions of the internet. People have contradictory impulses: on the one hand they want to share some files, email and test messages, and software, on the other hand they do not want to share all the information and resources on their machine with every other user on the internet. Trying to balance these contradictory impulses is what makes network security difficult.
Some standard measure to reduce your exposure to either malicious or inadvertent harm to your computer's security. For example, using good passwords; being sure you know the person or corporation you are downloading software from; applying security patches to your software as fast as possible; avoiding opening dubious email, particularly if your OS allows email to run scripts or other programs automatically. People may also want to investigate various spam filters, to reduce the volume of junk email they are exposed to. Currently over 80% of the email sent to me is spam, and almost all of that is automatically diverted to a mailbox called "spam" that I review occasionally.

Weekly summary for CSC 104 (5)

In this week, I have learned some knowledge about information privacy. In the lecture,  I learned that privacy leaks and how to increase privacy and security. The most impressive part for me was prism program. The reason is that the information privacy for every government is very important today. Many spies try to exploit the government security information.
The most interested part in this week was how to increase privacy and security. Right now, I have many social networking and online bank that needed perfect password to secure my personal information. From this week, if I want to increase privacy and security, I should update security software, click carefully and know something about contacts.
From this week's lecture, I do not think anything will help for my normal life. However, last pages of lecture notes were very useful. It helps me solve some questions for tutorial quiz.
After this week, I should prepare my project two! New challenge will be coming!

Weekly summary for CSC 104 (4)

The second midterm was just finished this week!
Because of the second midterm, the lecture of this week did not show some interesting information. Almost everyone focused on preparing a good "cheat sheet". Few people took care of lecture. :(
Now let's talk about midterm! For the midterm, the question about binary is very easy, and I solve this question very quickly. The fourth and fifth question should be fine. However, the first and second question confused me as usual. The "cheat sheet" could not save me! I even used my personal knowledge to solve these questions! I hope I could get some points for these two questions. :(
Finally, after finishing the second midterm, only two lectures left for CSC 104.  I am glad to choose this interesting course. Furthermore, I meet some great new friends!

Weekly summary for CSC 104 (3)

This week is very special, because I will have a fall break next Monday and Tuesday. (It is amazing) However, I will also have CSC 104 term test next Wednesday.  :(  
Let me talk about the lecture for this week. The first part of lecture is not difficult, and I have learned some knowledge about networks. However, when I learned about the recursion, I felt so confused. I did not know how to recognize a palindrome, or something else. As I mentioned, next Wednesday will be term test 2, so I have to figure this out before test.
The most interested part in this week was about the tutorial video. For example, when I finished the quiz question, I saw that the picture looks like "pig's nose"! This was very funny!
From this week's lecture, I learned some common knowledge about network. I think it might be helpful for my normal life.
Finally, I will also talk about the most impression of my achievements this week. I was very busy for this week, and I also did a group presentation for my third year commerce course. I think everyone did good job in my group. All in all, I will have a fall break, and I hope I could enjoy it!!

Weekly summary for CSC 104 (2)

In this week, I have learned some knowledge about operators and operating systems. In the lecture, I learned that machines take over in batches, time sharing, and task-switching to time-splitting. The most impressive part for me was that an operating system should have kernel and utilities. The reason is that I did not understanding how an operating system operates and what did it include.
The most interested part in this week was how an operating system operates. I began to use computer about 13-year-old. Right now, I use my personal computer each day, and I cannot study or work without computer. However, I did not know how a computer's operating system work. From this week, I got some points about operating systems from lecture. Furthermore, nothing was very confused me. This is good news!
From this week's lecture, I do not think anything will help for my normal life. However, last pages of lecture notes were very useful. It shows an algorithm, and it helps me to recall some knowledge that had already learnt.
The most impression of my achievements this week was to finish project one, because I created a group with two new friends, and we worked together very efficiently.

Weekly summary for CSC 104

In this week, I have learned some knowledge about Von Neumann, storage and time sharing. In the lecture, I learned that what Von Neumann looks like, and some issues about Von Neumann, such as Von Neumann bottleneck and mortality of Moore's law. The most impressive part for me was that storage can be defined as hard drive, compact disc and flash drive.
The most interested and confused part in this week was how to change the color and dimensions of a picture. I am very confused about the fourth video named "decompose and reconstruct" in the tutorial hand out. The step of "bitmap" in this video was very challenging for me. Therefore, I am not very confident in this part of this week. However, after I asked this part from TA, I could understand the meaning of fourth video.
Although my course major is not about computer science, some information about storage and computer operating system could help me in my life. For example, when I purchased a new computer, the storage and computer operating system was very useful.
The one of my achievements this week was to finish the quiz of CSC104, because I thought this quiz was most difficult for me compared with the past quiz.
This week's tutorial was very helpful for me, because I solved some questions that were confused to me. Furthermore, the Wikipedia assignment spent me a lot of time, and I am very interested in my first blog.
